We Rocked Around the Clock!
The pop up stage in front of the Town Clock in Winnsboro was the site of some high energy performances presented by students in Fairfield County School District arts programs on Saturday during the annual Rock Around the Clock fall festival! From choral and instrumental music to dance, the student performers had the opportunity to showcase their talents for a receptive audience. The morning festivities were led by Gene Stephens, Chamber President, and Mayor Roger Gaddy, who kicked off the festival with a warm welcome. South Carolina's State Teacher of the Year and FCHS teacher, Chanda Jefferson, continued the opening presentations with an a cappella rendition of the National Anthem.
The Fairfield County School District Honors Chorus was the first of the school performances, followed by choral, instrumental and dance groups from Fairfield Magnet School for Math and Science. One highlight of the FMSMS performance was a collaboration between the FMSMS Dancers and the Percussion line. The Fairfield Middle School/Fairfield Central High School combined orchestra, Fairfield Middle School and Fairfield Central High School dance programs also represented the district. The festival was just one of the community events that provides a performance showcase for Fairfield students this month. "We have so many really high quality performing arts ensembles this year and it is wonderful to have these local performance opportunities. Half of our performing arts groups are usually a part of the Rock Around the Clock performances in October, and many of the others are scheduled for Pig on the Ridge in November. We also have both groups and individual artists representing the district at the SC State Fair and of course showcase events in each school. If you would like to see an artistic exhibit or performance, there is definitely a time and a place to do just that."
Way to go Winnsboro for a great celebration.
