The Fairfield County School District (F.C.) Diamond Elite dance camp is taking place this week at the Fairfield Middle School gymnasium. The dance camp is teaching the dancers hip-hop and HBCU majorette, Poms and tumbling, and baton twirling. The featured clinicians are Coach Dre from Dancing Dolls, Danielle Stamper--former captain at Southern University and McKinley High Pantherettes Coach, Embody by V, ACX Twisters, and Paramount Twirlers! If you are not familiar with the F.C.Dance team, I was able to interview the coordinator, Gervonder Brown, to ask her a few questions about the best dance team in the area!

The dance team was created in 2018 and consists of elementary to high school aged girls. The F.C. Diamond Elite dance team first started performing in parades in surrounding areas, such as the FCHS Homecoming and the towns of Winnsboro, Ridgeway, and Blythewood Christmas parades. The first competition took place in Pageland, SC and was an overall great experience, but the ladies knew that they had to turn it up a notch. The dance team partnered with Charismatic dance team and received lessons from Coach T to help improve their skills in multiple categories.

In January of 2018, the ladies were granted the opportunity to perform for the Harlem Globetrotters at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, SC. at Westwood High School, the ladies participated in the competition, winning 1st place in field show, 3rd in stands, the Spirit Award, and the Squad Goals Award! The ladies competed in a total of 6 competitions during the 2018-2019 school year, where they also won trophies and recognitions.

Be on the lookout this school year, as they have new routines and new coaches. The majorette coach is Michalia Fordand and the pom coach is Jasmine Kinard.
