Mrs. Geraldine Martin was born on February 9th and has lived in the Ridgeway area her entire life. She began her career as a teacher assistant at Geiger Elementary where she found a passion for working with children, especially those with special needs. Over the years, she took great pride in nurturing and guiding children as well as taking care of the home. She opened up her home to over 30 foster children and cared for babies from around the state with special medical needs. In later years, she cared for many children from the community in her home daycare. Thus, that is how she earned the name “Mama G." She also cared for the elderly and assisted them in her home until they fully recovered.
She is a graduate of Fairfield High School Class of 1964. She loves to read and keep current on natural health remedies. Other hobbies include crocheting and sitting on her front porch to take in the sun. Once she finishes a crochet piece, she lets her heart guide her on deciding who should receive it. She estimates that she has made over 300 blankets in various sizes since she learned the art in her 20’s. Mrs. Martin loves people and enjoys fellow shipping with others. She is proud that at her age she has embraced technology and can navigate the varied applications on her iPad that her daughter gave her a few years ago!
Mrs. Martin is a charter member of Bible Light Holiness Church and has been a member for 50 years. She enjoys singing and studying her weekly Sunday school lesson and reference Bible. She is a woman of faith and believes if you put your faith in God, all things are possible. She is the proud mother of one daughter, Tammy, and two sons, Jermain and Blake.
