Cow Drop Fundraiser

Cow Drop Fundraiser

Story by: Meredith PopeStudent Journalist

The Richard Winn Academy Sporting Clay Team recently hosted a Cow Drop Fundraiser. The cow drop was held at Meadow Lou Farms in Winnsboro. So, what exactly is a cow drop? A cow drop is when a big fenced square is constructed in the middle of a field and paint is used to make a grid inside the fence. The cow goes inside the fence and whatever square the cow poops in is the winner. Everyone sits patiently waiting for the cow to do their business. It took the cow ten minutes to choose her square and poop! Everyone on the Sporting Clay Team sold tickets to the cow drop with the grand prize being a rifle. To determine the winner, the team put the tickets in numerical order in a grid style. The squares on the grid and the squares on the field are corresponding with each other. Then, the wait for the cow to “choose” her square begins.

The money the team raises will help team members buy shells for each shooter, fees for tournaments, and for jerseys and shooting team wear. The Sporting Clay Team is new to Richard Winn. This is the second year having a team and they have done the Cow Drop Fundraiser for both years. While it may seem like an unlikely or unconventional way to raise money, it works, and the crowd enjoys it!
