On Thursday, March 14, 2019, the Ms. Richard Winn Academy (RWA) pageant was held in the gymnasium at Richard Winn Academy. The theme this year was The Greatest Showmen. Twenty-three beautiful girls first appeared on stage in matching red shirts and black pants and performed a dance to remember as the opening act. After introducing each young lady by age, grade, and name they reappeared in an outfit that described what they wanted to be when they grew up. After a short intermission, each young lady walked the stage in their beautiful gowns of the night. Once again, the girls returned to the stage and waited to be crowned by Ms. Callie Swearingen. Ms. RWA and best overall went to Sibil Grier Hensley. Ms. Senior went to Jennifer Haney; Ms. Junior went to Angie Ortiz; Ms. Sophomore went to Blythe Edwards; and Ms. Congeniality and runner-up to Ms. RWA went to Hannah Earhart. I had the opportunity to speak with a few of the contestants. Blythe Edwards said, “When I entered the pageant I never thought I would win anything in it. It was all just for fun. Winning Ms. Sophomore means so much!” I also had the chance to speak with the Ms. Congeniality, Hannah Earhart. She responded, “I had a feeling I would win. I mean who doesn’t love them some farm girl! No, but really being named Ms. Congeniality means so much.” Lastly, I spoke with Ms. Senior Jennifer “Jen” Haney. All she had to say was “ Wow!! That was a shock, but what can I say I rocked it!” The lower class winners were as follows: Haley Autry won Little Miss RWA, Kayden Varnadore won first runner up to Little Miss RWA, Avery Sharpe was sixth-grade winner, Caitlyn Talbert was first runner up to Junior Miss, Hannah Beth McEntire was seventh-grade winner, Lacey Peake won Junior Miss RWA and Junior Miss Congeniality, and Emma Steed was eighth-grade winner. Special thanks and recognition to the other girls who also rocked the stage, Ms. Leah Childers, Ms. Charlotte Lewis, Ms. Ava Fowler, Ms. Danika Miles, Ms. Lily Baggot, Ms. Lacey Peak, Ms. Abigail Gonzales, Ms. Cameron McClendon, Ms. Madison Wilkes, Ms. Lacie Earhart, Ms. Emily Jones, and Ms. Zoe Mitsakos.
