"Service Above Self"

On Friday, April 5th, the Rotary Club of Winnsboro hosted a barbecue fundraiser. Vernon Kennedy Sr., Club Membership chair stated, “This is one of the many fundraisers we do to help support graduating seniors of Fairfield Central and Richard-Winn Academy. Each scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000.” The Rotary Club host other fundraisers, such as selling pecans during the holidays and their annual 5K Race. President, Dr. Claudia Avery, shared the motto of Rotary is Service Above Self. “With that, we have the op-portunity to do many service projects. One of those being scholarships for high school seniors. Internationally, we make donations to the Rotary Foundation to benefit the C.A.R.T. (Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust) Fund. We also work with The Bill Gates Foundation to get clean water to help eradicate polio in third world countries,” Dr. Avery said. She also highlighted how the Rotary Club of Winnsboro invests in the youth from a young age by providing dictionaries to all 3rd grade students in the county. The Winnsboro Rotary Club was established in 1938 and 81 years later, it continues to thrives deeply in Fairfield County.
