Ready, Set, READ!

The Fairfield County Read-In, which is sponsored by Fairfield County Public Library, is held annually to celebrate the love of books and to honor the top readers in the county. Not only does it encourage children to read, but it also gives them a chance to escape from the claustrophobic walls of the classroom and explore reading in a different setting. This years’ Read-In was held on Friday, March 29, 2019, at the Fairfield County Recreation Center. In order to be eligible for the event, students were required to take Reading Counts tests throughout the year.

Many of the students have over 100 points! Students shared their favorite books, which included Bad Kitty and Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham. For the teachers, elected officials, and school board members in attendance, it was exciting to see students of all ages coming together to celebrate reading. The celebration also gave those in attendance a chance to see that reading is highly valued. Students enjoyed a live storyteller, after reading the books they so proudly pulled from their backpacks as they made themselves comfortable on blankets, towels, or sleeping bags.
