On Thursday, November 14th, Fairfield County gathered to commemorate the sign reveal for the state’s newest Scenic Byway. The Piedmont Gateway Scenic Byway is the first new Scenic Byway in the state in over a decade and the first one not located at the beach or in the mountain areas. This project began in 2016 when organizers Cal and Angela Harrison, from Ridgeway, saw an opportunity to showcase the natural beauty of Fairfield County.

“This all started when we wanted to help preserve the nature and beauty of Fairfield County," they shared.

The Piedmont Gateway Scenic Byway encompasses 26 total miles.

“We hope this Scenic Byway becomes a destination spot for people like us. We love to travel to other communities and see the natural beauty that is abundant and we want to share that with everyone,” stated Angela Harrison.

“We want to give a special thank you to SCDOT, Senator Mike Fanning, and Representative Annie McDaniel, who without their help pushing this forward, we could not have gotten it done," Cal Harrison stated.  “We also worked closely with Fairfield County, the town of Ridgeway and the town of Winnsboro to make accommodations and agreements to get this project completed.”

This project marks a great day for Fairfield County and all of those that love to be surrounded by the peace and beauty of nature.
