Mrs. Hannah Phillips

Mrs. Hannah Phillips was born in Fairfield County where she lived most of her life, except for the years she attended Erskine College and her teaching career in Walterboro, SC. She was married to H.G. Phillips, Jr. for sixty two years, who passed away four years ago. They have four children; Grady, Jane, Helen, and Hannah. They also have twelve wonderful grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Along with teaching in Walterboro, SC, Mrs. Phillips job experiences also include being a tour guide for Fairfield County for over forty years and working at the South Carolina Railroad Museum, where she informed others about the history of Fairfield County. She enjoyed sharing amazing stories and history with others so they could open their eyes to see how Fairfield is a great county! She is an active member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Winnsboro, SC.

In her free time, Mrs. Phillips love to teach children and talk a lot about the history of the county. She also enjoys completing three-hundred-piece puzzles, which she believes are good for the brain. I asked Mrs. Phillips is there any difference between what matters to you now and what mattered 30 years ago, she states, "Technology, because of the new happenings that are occurring now. Times have changed and it is important to keep up with it." One of the most life-changing events of Mrs. Phillip's life is when she married her husband, H.G. Phillips, Jr.

Mrs. Phillips expresses that her greatest accomplishment is her family. She believes the Lord, her family, and her ambition gives her life purpose. Her advice to young people would be to always show patience, kindness, loyalty, respect and love. She states, "Love is the key word. If we can show love to other people, to me that is what matters the most."

Mrs. Phillips wants to be remembered as a loving person, ex-pressing happiness from the way she lived her life. She wants to leave two quotes with the community:

"I like young people. I like the sparkle in your eyes when a goal is reached! This is happiness for your teachers, leaders, your family, and for yourself as you accomplish a project. I get excited just thinking of the future ahead for you, even with working with newspapers!"

"Be not dismayed nor be surprised if what you do is criticized. Mistakes are made, I will not deny, but they're only made by those who try."
