As Warmer weather arrives the Varsity Baseball Team heats up

Fairfield Central Varsity Baseball Team was back in action Tuesday night in a doubleheader against the Keenan High School Raiders. In the first game, Keenan jumped out to an early lead after gaining two baserunners. Then a sharply hit double by Makia Atkins scored both runners. However, after that Fairfield Central got the bats going and never looked back. Jalen Jackson and Jacob McManus led with two hits each. Errors were costly for Keenan totaling five which allowed the Griffins to gain base runners. Once on base, the Griffins stepped up stealing a total of sixteen stolen bases in two innings of offensive work. Shykeim Holmes was credited with the win for Fairfield Central after striking out five and pitching a 60% strike percentage. The final score of the first game was 17-2 which propelled the Griffins to having a 1-2 record in the region.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Griffins continued the offensive onslaught that was started earlier that night. The Griffins racked up a total of 8 hits on poor pitching by Keenan that gave up eleven walks to the Griffins. Keion Trapp led the way with three hits for Fairfield Central, followed by two hits for Jacob McManus. Errors were still an issue for the Raiders as they surrendered another five to Griffin batters. Jalen Jackson was on the mound for Fairfield Central in three innings of work he had a fantastic night. Jackson retired all nine batters for Keenan, six in the form of strikeouts. The Griffins had another great game on the base running paths totaling eighteen stolen bases in the two innings of offensive presence. The final score of the game was 17-0 which gives Fairfield Central a 2-2 record in the region. The Griffins are currently sitting at third place overall in the region.

Fairfield Central Varsity Baseball Team claimed the lead late in the game in a 12-1 victory over Great Falls on Wednesday. The game was tied at one apiece with Fairfield Central batting in the top of the fourth when Keion Trapp's sac fly scored one run for Fairfield Central which put the Griffins up by 1. The Griffins also scored two more runs in the fifth inning and from there it was no looking back. The Griffins added onto the score thanks to eight runs in the sixth inning. The big inning was started by singles from Dylan Kurtz and Montavious Thompson, an error on a ball put in play by Taylor Truesdale and another error on a ball hit by Jacob McManus. Truesdale was the winning pitcher for the Griffins. He went six innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out six. He also threw for a 58% strike percentage in an excellent outing on the mound. Landon Rodriguez took the loss for Great Falls, He surrendered six runs on seven hits over five innings, striking out two and walking one. Fairfield Central had the bats going and racked up 12 hits. Jalen Jackson, Kurtz, and CJ Simmons all managed to get 2 hits for Fairfield Central. Thompson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Fairfield Central in hits. Fairfield Central also racked up 8 stolen bases for the game.

The Fairfield Central Varsity Baseball team defeated Chester 11-10 on Friday thanks to a walk-off sacrifice fly. The game was tied at ten with the Griffins up batting in the bottom of the seventh when CJ Simmons's sac fly scored Taylor Truesdale for Fairfield Central to give them the win. The Griffins collected eleven hits and Chester had five to counter in the game. Jacob McManus started the game for Fairfield Central Griffins Varsity. He lasted two innings, allowing three hits and six runs while striking out three. Simmons earned the victory on the hill for Fairfield Central Griffins Varsity as he was brought in to relieve McManus. He surrendered four runs on two hits over five innings, striking out 11. Preston Kirby took the loss for Chester. He surrendered two runs on six hits over four innings, striking out two and walking zero. Fairfield Central had the bats swinging once again as the Varsity Griffins totaled 11 hits. Montavious Thompson, Taylor Truesdale, and Chazi Jones all managed multiple hits for Fairfield Central Griffins Varsity. Thompson led Fairfield Central Griffins Varsity with three hits in five at-bats. Fairfield Central was also able to run the stats high on the basepaths with eight stolen bases. Simmons led the way with three.
